In this interactive session, Professor Charkoudian will introduce the work of her lab, where students study bacteria that produce colorful molecules with potential medicinal properties. Current undergraduates will share how their research experiences are shaping their scientific interests and future goals. Participants will then explore these remarkable microbes up close and create their own BioArt by painting safe bacteria onto agar plates. This hands-on activity is family-friendly and perfect for alumni, students, and young scientists alike.

Déjà Vu? Russia Then and Now with Professor Linda Gerstein

For some reunion classes, studying the Soviet Union meant encountering a fully realized Communist empire. In the years that followed, Haverford classrooms explored the arc of that history—from the height of the USSR to the post-Chernobyl unraveling and the dramatic collapse of the Soviet system. Fifty years later, with Russia once again shaping global headlines, we return to the classroom to ask: what now? Are we witnessing something new—or a familiar pattern repeating itself? Join Professor Linda Gerstein for this lively conversation to revisit the spirit of a Haverford classroom and reflect on how history echoes across generations.

Humanities in Action: A Classroom Conversation with Bret Mulligan

Join Bret Mulligan, associate provost for faculty scholarship and professor of classics, for an interactive, classroom-style experience that brings the Haverford learning environment to life. Together, participants will explore the value, relevance, and challenges of humanities education in today’s academic landscape. Expect thoughtful dialogue, intellectual curiosity, and the spirit of a Haverford classroom.
